Effectiveness and user satisfaction on PAR level system based on third-party logistics : case study of a general hospital

As the competition among hospitals has been intensified, material management cost in hospital is increased, and thus the effective management is getting important. The Third Party Logistics(TPL) management system is proposed as one of the prominent method to reduce cost and increase productivity. This study examines the effectiveness and user satisfaction of PAR level supply system based on third party logistics. H Hospital located in Kyonggido in South Korea has adopted PAR-level supply system based on third party logistics system to resolve inventory management problems and to pay more attention to the health care services. The experience of adopting of PAR-level supply system in H Hospital was explored from the internal report analysis and surveys measuring user satisfaction. In addition, the 208 questionnaires out of 238 have been collected with the response rate of 87.39%. The effectiveness as well as satisfaction of the PAR-level supply system was investigated. The PAR level supply management system was found to be effective in terms of the inventory cost reduction and inventory level enhancement. In addition, new system simplify decision making process because the inventory status was easy to be identified. On the other hand, the satisfaction level about the barcode system adopted for the automatic check for the inventory level and outsourced partners were found to be low, which was due to the inconvenience of new technology and short of expertise our partners.
